Arts, Briefly: Prehistoric Adventure Strikes Gold
10 Mar 2008 05:50:45A movie with a big-number title, “10,000 BC,” brought in a big-number weekend gross — $35.7 million — according to figures compiled by the tracking company Media by Numbers. The estimated North American gross for the film (from Warner Brothers), about early tribesmen on a rescue mission, earned it a No. 1 ranking in its debut weekend and far outstripped the $14 million earned by another new film, “College Road Trip,” a Disney comedy starring Martin Lawrence and Raven-Symoné as a domineering police chief and his teenage daughter on a journey to her interview at Georgetown University. Third place went to the thriller “Vantage Point” (Columbia Pictures) with $7.5 million in its third week. The No. 4 ranking and $5.75 million went to another holdover, the raunchy basketball comedy “Semi-Pro” (New Line), the previous weekend’s No. 1 film. Just behind, with $5.71 million in its debut, was “The Bank Job” (Lionsgate), a caper movie starring Jason Statham.
