Arts, Briefly: Hirschfeld’s Art to Guide Students
13 Mar 2008 09:41:36A program exploring the arts through the lines and shapes of the artist Al Hirschfeld, above, was announced on Tuesday by the Al Hirschfeld Foundation and the New York City Department of Education. Called the Al Hirschfeld Project — after the artist most famous for his theatrical caricatures in The New York Times — the program will help public school arts teachers (grades K-12) educate students about the performing arts over the last century. The Hirschfeld curriculum was developed to complement the Department of Education’s Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts, a set of standards outlining what students should know and be able to achieve in dance, music, theater and visual arts through high school.
