10 Jul 2008 05:54:08Ingrid Betancourt, below, the Colombian-French politician who was held hostage by guerrillas in a Colombian jungle for six years, has been on a full-court press with the European news media after her dramatic rescue last week. Now the American media will have their turn, beginning with NBC News, which announced on Wednesday that it had been granted the first United States television interview with Ms. Betancourt since her rescue. Ann Curry, the NBC news anchor, conducted the interview, scheduled for broadcast on the “NBC Nightly News” on Wednesday night and on “Today” on Thursday. And Ms. Betancourt’s American publisher, Ecco, a division of HarperCollins, quickly made plans to release a new paperback version of her 2001 memoir, “Until Death Do Us Part,” in August. The book, an attack on political corruption in Colombia, was published under the title “The Rage in My Heart” in France, and became a best seller there. Susanna Lea, Ms. Betancourt’s longtime literary agent in Paris, said in an e-mail message that Ms. Betancourt was “thinking of writing a book and a play too.”.
