Arts, Briefly: Carlin Remembered

George Carlin, famous for listing the seven words that he said you can never say on television, was remembered at a private memorial service on Sunday as always having a kind word for everyone, The Associated Press reported. At the service attended by about 150 people, the 71-year-old comedian, who died of heart failure on June 22, was memorialized by the comedians Bill Maher, Garry Shandling and others as a kind man without enemies. “What everyone said tonight is if you spent time with my father, whether it was five seconds or five hours, he was kind, attentive, connected to you, compassionate,” said Kelly Carlin McCall, the comedian’s daughter.
